Restaurants Canada’s 2016 Foodservice Operations Report will help you compare your business to others. It will identify areas where your costs are too high (or possibly too low), with profit margins and detailed operating expenses broken down by type of restaurant and by province. Here are a few highlights: The average commercial foodservice business in Canada earned a pre-tax profit margin of just 4.2% in 2014. This is down slightly from 4.3% in 2013. Cost of sales remains the largest expense for restaurant operators, at 34.0% of operating revenue.
